The Story of Sagwara's Jewellery Market

For this small town of Sagwara, it can rightly be said that Shri. kesarimalji Shah is truly the Founder of Sagwara's Jewellery Market, a journey that actually started in the year 1935. He used to own a little bicycle shop and ventured into silver jewellery with an 8ft by 8ft store that was the start of jewellery enterprise in the region. It was called Shah Hiralal kesarimal Saraf in honour of his late father.

As time passed by, kesarimalji gradually grew his company and started manufacturing and trading in gold jewellery as well. By 1970, the firm he founded had become a household name throughout the Udaipur region for its dependability, beauty, elaborate patterns, and gold purity. He took the entire domain of this firm to a prosperous stage through his hard work. But the Gods had some other intentions, and kesarimalJi got struck with cancer in 1972.

He died on December 28, 1974, leaving his sons, Saraf Bhogilalji shah, Shri. Kirti Kumarji Shah and Narendra Kumar Shah, to bear the entire burden of the jewellery business who took over the full responsibility of the business after his father moved on. At 18 years of age he led the business with hard work, honesty, and devotion and with a practical business approach without any major degrees and qualification. His modest, down-to-earth nature not only grew the business through hard work and good behaviour but also extended the popularity of himself and his family, not only in Sagwara but also amidst the mass jewellery buyers in Udaipur, Banswara and Dungarpur.

Seeing the growing scope of the industry, many more Sagwara families entered this industry with the encouragement and direction of Shah Hiralal kesarimal Saraf. Shah Hiralal kesarimal Saraf's family never saw anyone as a competitor, instead showing everyone the right path and assisting in the business. Within a few years, the Sagwara marketplace was now being recognized for its gold jewellery and trading activities, and Shah Hiralal kesarimal Saraf had become a brand and hallmark in itself there. Around a decade later, the younger son, Narendra Kumarji Shah, joined the company to share a shoulder with the ever-increasing responsibilities of Kirti Kumar Ji Shah in running the business and together they propelled this company to newer heights. With a new period, fresh ideas, and a new future in mind, the foundation of another establishment, H.kesarimal Jewellers, was laid in October November 2003.
